0001172: More information / metadata about switches (network devices)

Description

It can start small and iteratively improve.

From alias field per switch, provided by Admin that would show instead of IP.

To auto-populated SNMP location, ifAlias and IfDescr that would be synchronized using a daemon that would scan all the switches in configuration from time to time (or maybe to begin with it would do a SNMP when adding the switch the first time).

(0001848) obilodeau (reporter) 2011-02-03 08:56	additional good points from the mailing list: Different vendors stick different things in ifAlias and ifDesc, so having the ability to choose which to use for port naming would be nice. It would also be nice to be able to use the sysName and SysLocation so that sysName is listed instead of the switch IP.
